Business & Accounting
School of Business and Accounting
The School of Business and Accounting consists of two departments: Department of Business and Marketing, as well as Department of Accountancy. Towards the mission of guiding and honing our students to become competent contributors in today's corporate world, the School of Business provides an affordable avenue for school leavers and diploma holders to realise their ambitions through obtaining the appropriate tertiary business, marketing, finance or accounting qualifications.
Department of Business and Marketing
To complement the home-grown programmes such as the Foundation Studies in Business, the Diploma in Business Administration, and the Diploma in Marketing programmes, the Department of Business and Marketing also conducts the world-recognised University of East London (UEL) BA (Hons) International Business and BA (Hons) Marketing degree programmes in collaboration with the UEL in the United Kingdom. These fully MQA-accredited twinning degree programmes provide complete pathways to school leavers in the acquisition of world-recognised business degrees.
The course contents of the UEL degree programmes are jointly designed by UEL and its industrial and corporate partners in the UK. This ensures that graduates of these degree programmes are market-ready and employable. A unique feature of the UEL business degree programmes is that students are exposed to real-world problems throughout the courses, allowing for a smooth transition from the classroom to the corporate world.
The School also organises events and extra-curricular activities through its student clubs, such as the Business Club for the foundation and diploma students and the Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES) for the degree students, which simulate actual business situations so as to expose its students to real life scenarios in the corporate world. Linkages are made with corporations to provide internships to the final year students, either during their semester break or immediately after their final semester. Students also have free access to the school’s Learning Centre at the library to meet with lecturers to discuss course materials, assignments or any other matters.
Upon completing their degree programmes, these successful graduates have all managed to land themselves with appropriate jobs to their satisfaction with renowned corporations suchas IBM and Sime Darby. Selected First Class Honours graduates are given scholarships jointly by the University of Ballarat (UB) and Stamford College to pursue the UB MBA programme at Stamford College.
Department of Accountancy
The Department of Accountancy conducts accounting and finance programmes for students who are interested in pursuing an accounting and financial career in the public and private sectors. The programmes include Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) (from Introductory to Diploma Levels, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Higher Diploma in Accounting, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK (ACCA) from Fundamentals to Professional schemes, and the University of London’s B Sc (Hons) Accounting & Finance and B Sc (Hons) Banking & Finance external degree programmes.
The Stamford College Accountants Club (SCAC) aims to be a representative for all accounting students in the college. The Club advocates ‘Sharing is caring’. It helps to enlarge the student network and to encourage the growth and sharing of knowledge. Members will learn about skills development and team building by activities which include inviting speakers from ACCA and organising training and field trips for members. Besides learning the theoretical aspects of the accounting and financial courses, students will also develop analytical and problem-solving skills. Students will be equipped to work in various disciplines with a wide array of employers such as leading accounting firms, banks, insurance companies, management consultancies and investment firms.
