The EI Hospitality Management Diploma is a prestigious and widely-recognised qualification that is supported by the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA).

 

The course is designed to give students a comprehensive, up to date knowledge of operational practices, procedures, and management skills essential to meet entry level needs in supervisory positions in the industry. The course integrates classroom learning with skills training and a period of internment in a hospitality establishment. The integrated approach not only prepares students for immediate entry into employment in the hospitality industry but also provides them with the knowledge and skills for rapid advancement into management positions within the industry.

 

Although students receive training in many of the skills required in the industry, the primary focus of the course is on management.

 

Students are required to complete four months of industrial placement in a hotel or related organisation. Students may select to do their industrial placement in Malaysia, Singapore, France or the United States. The aims of the course are to:

 

  • provide an overview of the hospitality industry, emphasizing its position in the national and international economy,
  • provide detailed knowledge of the operational and management procedures and practices employed within the industry,
  • instill skills in planning and managing hospitality products and services,
  • instill basic hospitality skills,
  • provide supervised industrial training through a period of internment in a hotel.

 

At the end of the course, graduates should be able to:

 

  • know various aspects of hotel operations,
  • conduct training of staff development,
  • supervise every department operation,
  • coordinate different functions in hospitality industry,
  • communicate effectively with co-workers, customers and superiors,
  • lead in practicing the highest standards in sanitation, safety and ethics,
  • practice self-motivation and self-development, and seek opportunity for life-long learning.

 

 

 

Founded in 1910, the American Hotel and Lodging Association represents the US$93.1 billion lodging industry in the United States; with some 11,000 lodging properties worldwide. It provides educational operations, technical, marketing and communication services plus governmental affairs representation to the lodging industry.

 

Educational Institute (EI) is the non-profit foundation of AHLA and is the world¡¯s largest communication resource centre for the hospitality profession. From guestroom attendant to general manager, professional certification offered by EI is the lodging industry¡¯s ultimate distinction of excellence.

 

 

 

Requirement

 

  • SPM with minimum 3 credits or equivalent.
  • Adults with a minimum of one year experience in the hospitality industry.
